Sorry to get in so late on

Sorry to get in so late on this conversation.

I'm running the CB DS pump on my T4, and my tank is mounted behind the drivers seat. It holds about 12 litres of oil and the bottom of the tank is about 2" off the floor. I still needed a ball valve as mine is not a daily driver ... just remember to open the valve before starting it up.

I used -8 AN to plumb the system, no issues at all, and this includes plumbing an RX7 oil cooler at the front beam. The RX7 cooler looks like it was meant to be there, just the right width and height, and has an integral thermostat.

You check the oil level by looking in the tank, but check the level when the engine is running, like already previously mentioned.

I drive the bug hard, and oil pressure at hot idle was about 15 psi, max pressure was about 60 psi, 7200 rpm. The engine sump may have a little oil in it while it is running due to the small scavenge, but no big deal ... the issue is constant oil pressure while driving hard and cornering hard.

Princess Auto has 1/2" JIC fittings for 1/2 the price of -8 AN aluminum. These are equivalent.
Looking great Chris.

Have a pic of that oil cooler mounted?

I'm trying to mount a Benz cooler to the split's beam. Not fitting well.

there is no golden rule on how much oil should be in the tank as long as the engine always gets oil, especially at high rpm when the oil is hot and the pump is spinning at full capacity
- always top up oil tank levels with the engine at operating temp, otherwise when the oil heats up and expands it will overflow everywhere
- the more oil that is in there the longer it wil ltake to get to operating temp, run an oil thermostat, and an air one on the cooling fan if you can (still takes me a while to warm up)
- as a point of reference my 911 takes about 12 litres of oil, as did my gold ghia
- I had a shutoff valve on my ghia but be careful, mine partially shut on me while driving! I would remove the lever off the ball valve and use it as a key to shut of fthe oil.
- oil feed line should be huge an12 or bigger if possible, that line is like 1" ID on a 911

My beef with the CB dry sump pump is that the scavenge side of the pump is not much bigger than the feed, I beleive that it should be bigger with all that hot frothy oil in the case, mine was filling up with oil when I had a cb pump

You check the oil level by looking at your oil level in your tank.

If you want to check the motor, need to check the dipstick when its running. But it may not show either.

By dry sumping, your always sucking the oil out of the motor. So if your oil pressure is fine, and your oil tank level is good, your dipstick could show emtpy. Your tank is now your sump.

If you fill the engine with oil to the marker on the dipstick, AND fill the tank, you'll drive down the road and the tank will overflow as the oil from the engine will dump to the tank. Look at the Autocraft/Pauter dry sumped engines, and you will see the cases are flat underneath with no oil sumps.

looks nice, I like that

looks nice, I like that pulley
Your tank looks like its a good 6" lower than Pete's, are you sure you cant get it any lower? The lower the better ;)

Not sure what you are going to run on your alt, but if you use a 356 upper pulley you can gain back some of the cooling fan speed you lost by having to use the smaller lower pulley.

re: dry sump

Chris, I know you need a shut off valve. Pete had one, I remember him telling me. I'm sure Pete will jump in with anwers on the oil level question.

I had a shutoff valve because it wasn't my daily. It would sit for awhile and the oil would make its way though the oil pump and fill the engine. My tank was way higher than the engine, on the rear shelf behind the seats. I'd also close the valve when parking overnight.

I checked the oil when it was warm and running. Watch you don't lose a finger on the fan belt. It will show a different level either Hot or Cold. Keep a eye on your idiot light, and the tank level when starting out.

Sandeep, and Bryan are running drysump setups too.
