It was a nice day today, so i figured let's fire up the 1600!
The dual Dells don't have chokes, so i picked up a can of "quick start", got the battery back into the bug and turned it over. Fired spraying the quick start then died. Usually i'd fire it with the spray, till the fuel bowls fill up, then it runs on its own.
Not this time. Poured fuel into the bowls with a cup. Ran for a few seconds then died. So started to do the "once over" on it. No fuel coming out if the pump, No fuel going into the pump. HUH? Gas guage shows empty? Could have sworn there was at least half a tank in there before winter.
Grabbed a small Jerry can, dropped a hose in it and attached to the filter/pump at the motor. Motor cranked, sucked fuel, and fired up! Let it idle for a while, and shut it down.
Went up front and dumped the rest of the gas can in the tank. Guess what? It came out the bottom! What a stinky mess. This weekend i'll have it up in the air, to fix the leak.
Pete
Sorry to hear of the leak Pete, but nice to hear you are getting the car ready. Should be a really nice weekend. I may bring the Cabrio home tomorrow to get started on it. For those who don't know, I picked up a '90 Cabrio for a good price and it will be my wife's summer driver this year. Needs a bit of body work and some suspension repairs.
Anyway, Pete, do you think it is just from the drain cock or do you think you may have a hole?

Because stock sucks.
It will be 10deg tommorrow! I'll be washing the bug. Didn't get a wash last fall when it got parked after the rain. Didn't even toss the cover on. It's dirty. The leak must have been its way of getting back at me for that!
I have 2 fuel lines going front to back. When the big EFI motor was in there, one was the fuel return, the other had the filter, pump, attached to it. When i put the stocker in, i used what was the fuel return line as the gas line going to the stocker. The leak was coming from the tank to filter before the pump connection. Gas hasn't really flowed though those connections since the 2332 blow up. So the old gas, possibly vibrations from last year's driving shook thinks loose. So i pulled out the filter, and plugged that hose. Should be fine now. Got some more gas, and tested it out, no leaks, and the 1600 fired up fine.
Have fun with the cabby.
