End of Summer?? Already???

Where has the summer of 2011 gone? This is the first year that I did not have an air-cooled VW of my own on the road in the last 20 years. I got to enjoy my old '56 turbo car a bit, and Ron's Intermeccanica Porsche a bit as well. Next year will be a different story, as my 21 window will be on the road, and hopefully my wife's German Look '73 vert will be as well. It has been a slow August in the shop, as I am waiting to find a pan for a dune buggy I have here for Pete. Once I get that, I can crank out his car pretty quick. And the 21 window should be here by the middle of the month and I can get that on the road this fall, and work through the winter to finish up the details.
Stay tuned for frequent updates in the forums when the bus shows up! It's going to be a fun build!!

March update

Just a quick update to let everyone know that there is a thread on the Samba to the build of my 21 window bus. Here it is http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=453802

Also, I am once again planning the trip down to South Carolina July 15 and 16 for VW Drag Night.
http://www.vwdragnight.com/Home_Page.php

I will be heading down likely the Wednesday before, and coming back the following Wednesday. I have been twice and it is a show not to be missed. Lots of awesome VWs, drag racing, swap meet.... Hot dog party after the races (free). Great people, great hospitality, and great partying. Scott Sain puts on this event with the help of a few friends, and it is really all about the social aspect. If you don't attend any other events this summer, you HAVE to check out this one. Last year the Red Baron and VW Paradise's Pro Mods rocked the track, along with Roger Crawford's Motion Sickness Ghia. Alan Fore was there, Warren Skaggs, all the big east coast guys as well. Where else will you see the biggest names from the west coast without going to the west coast? If you are interested in attending this stellar event please let me know.

In the shop right now I have John's '67 vert, and my '65 13 window waiting for the new owner to come and pick her up. When John's car is gone I'll have Pete's fibreglass buggy here for a full makeover. With any luck, the 21 window will be painted and home sometime in May.

It's a New Year!! So what's up, you ask.......

Well, plenty. Plenty to keep me busy in the shop. I finished up Greg Rothnie's '67 sedan and you can read about it in the Forums. I now have his dad's car in the shop for a new transaxle. When it goes back home, I will have Pete's buggy in here for new floors (maybe a whole new chassis) and complete rewire amongst other things. I just bought a '71 beetle that needs some body work (nothing major), paint, and reassembly. If no one steps up to buy it as is, I will complete and sell it in the summer. When I get pics I will post it under "VWs for sale".
I sold my 13 window bus and my 21 window is currently under the knife in Ohio at Vintage Metalwerks. Should be home in the early spring and hopefully will be on the road this summer! Porsche 944 brakes, freeway flyer tranny with modified spring plates, 2332cc engine with A-1 exhaust and heater boxes so I can drive it more, 4" narrowed beam, raised steering box, hybrid 944/VW spindles. Polished and detailed Fuchs, painted Sea Blue/Blue White. Oh yeah, Creative Engineering safaris as well. Can't wait.
So that's it for now. Thanks for following along!

I've been slacking on updates!!

Whew. About time I sat down and did something on here. While my website updates may be lax, I have not been. Where to start.....
I moved the home and shop at the beginning of June to Sharon, Ontario. That has taken a lot of my personal time. But I have still been wrenching as well. My bus and '59 vert made the move with me, with my '58 vert and '73 vert in storage elsewhere. Got settled in, and got to work on Pablo's '57. Had some tweaks to be done so he could drive it to the JJB. He did, it was displayed at my booth, and he won his class. My vert came in 2nd in it's class.
Then, someone stepped up to buy my vert. So I had some tweaks and changes to do to it before it left and they got done. Current owner lives in downtown Toronto so it will still be seen at some local VW shows.
Then I was asked to help out a buddy with his cousin's car. 1963 beetle sedan which had sat for the last 7 years due to idling issues. So it sat idle LOL!!! I lowered it, put in a 4" beam, new carb, rims and tires, installed the new interior carpet and generally cleaned it up to get it ready to drive. My buddy finished up a few outstanding details, then dropped it back off to his cousin to enjoy.
Now I have a '67 coming in for a engine and tranny swap. After that I have a '70 vert coming in for air ride, 17" rims and tires, and 4 wheel disc brake conversion.
What then?? Well, how about a 21 window bus for moi? I need money to finance the build so someone please buy my 13 window bus I have now! http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1014238
I am also looking at doing a Fall Cruise so check out that thread under my Forum topics.

I will update this site more as the cold weather approaches. Until then I have a shed to finish, fence to put up, gardens to move, central vac to install.........

First Blog entry of 2010!!

Well, it's been awhile since I did anything with this site. But I know people still come on here and look around because they will call me and ask me about stuff like recent forum topics. So I figured it was time to download an FTP program and get back to work!
New on the site now, and in the next few days and weeks you will find a new song when the home page opens, a new pic to look at, and some new sections on the left. I really want to expand my VWs for sale page. I like Randy Carlson's idea at OLDBUG and I want to help locals sell their clean VWs. First one up is my own '59 vert, and next will be John Woolsey's 1972 Super that is currently (as of this writing) and active forum topic. I have some new Customer Cars to add, like Pablo's '57 oval I just finished in November. I also have a new Project Vehicle, a 1958 vert that is going in for metalwork the end of January (if all goes as planned). It is a solid, cosmetically challenged car from Oregon. Plans are to drop it on BRMs, and make it a reliable driver to sell with a 1600cc dual port motor for reliability.
So it's 1:30am, and time for bed, so stay tuned and check back often because Tuned Perfection is back!!!!

Time for an update- June 27

Well overdue here for an update. What have I been doing????
A majority of my time has been spent getting the '59 vert ready for the summer season. I wish I was keeping track of my hours because I have a ton of time into it thus far. But today I took it for it's maiden voyage around the neighbourhood. Like a Phoenix rising from the flames, it was truly a special day for me. I still have a lot of little things to finish up on it, but the majority or work on it is behind me.
I need to turn attention to the '65 13 window bus next as I have boxes of new parts for it I have collected over the winter. Some mechanical, some cosmetic. I found that Apple Auto Glass in Oakville does a nice job on interior work and they will do convertible tops for VWs, so I may take the bus interior in to get recovered in the grey covers I bought from TMI.
Next show I will be at is Drag Night in South Carolina. I have a few guys coming down with me, so if you are interested please drop me a line. It is shaping up to be the biggest racing event on the east coast, bringing numerous VW racers from across the country, as far away as California. The event date is July 11. After that is the Durham Bugfest in the Pickering area.
Back out to work on the '59 now. Added a stereo this year, featuring Kaption Audio equipment, and I need to wire it up.
OH, BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE LATEST POLL! I AM GOING TO GET A CRUISE GOING FROM HAMILTON MOUNTAIN TO PORT DOVER AND ALONG LAKE ERIE IN AUGUST AND NEED TO FIND A DATE. FIRST I NEED A DAY, THEN I WILL PICK THE WEEKEND.

2 new cars added to the fleet as of March 20, 2009

It's been a busy couple of weeks for me. I sold the '64 notch project car to Pat from Pennsylvania last Sunday. Thanks Pat!! He attended Winter Jam in Daytona Beach in Feb and saw a few nicely done notches which got him to wanting one for himself. Sounds like he has a few projects on the go, I hope he gets a chance to get this car on the road. This weekend Marty from Virginia is up to look at my '65 notch. It is what it is and I am sure Marty will not be disappointed with the car.
So what did I pick up?? Well, my first watercooled since my '84 GTI when I was in University. I now own a '90 Cabrio, black with grey interior. 1.8L, 5 spd. Needs some body work and suspension repair, but the price was right. Also picked up a SWEET '58 beetle sedan redone by Koch's out of Cali. Stock, stock, stock. Whitewall tires, the whole 9 yards! I wish I could keep it, but I have nowhere for it, so it will soon be making it's appearance on my "For Sale" page.
Also have some Fuchs on their way. They will be up for sale as well. Stay tuned.....

Travel Day March 8, 2009

Good day today. Spent almost 10 hours on the road, but had a good time. Drove out to just north of Smith's Falls and met up with Harvey at his house to pick up a 4 tab hood and proper tail lights for my '58 vert project car. He is working on a '52 Zwitter from Sweden (I think). Has good parts for sale for a '59 sedan, including a roof section and doors. Also saw his Euro notch and Cdn custom Bug. Had a great visit with him. Then I met up with Marc that bought my '68 and gave him the parts he had ordered and the air management kit for the air ride system. He is trying to locate a trailer so he can make it down to the June Jitterbug this year. Hope to see him and the car there!! Also got my first website donation from Marc! Thanks!!!

Welcome to the New Website

Welcome to the new website. This section will replace the "What's New" section of the old website.

February 1, 2009
This is the first day that the new website was launched to a select few for their perusal. This is a whole new ballgame to me and there will be details to iron out for awhile yet.
As far as what is going on in the TP shop, the '59 vert is in getting the body work wrapped up. I expect to have it back early March to then go and get a new top, before the engine goes back in, along with new rear disc brakes, and stereo. I have a '58 vert project car in, that needs some cleaning up before it goes up for sale. Also, a '73 vert found it's way into the shop, and it will be spruced up for my wife and on the road for the summer of 2010. The '65 bus has a new interior waiting to go in, and a new air management kit waiting to be installed. It's going to be a busy winter!
